BADOPAL-HANUMANGARH

GENRAL VIEW

The site located about 11 km to the north-east of Rang Mahal and is about 350 m in diameter rising with its top about 4.5 m above the adjacent agricultural fields. Among the potsherds collected from this mound, there are those bearing coarse painted floral designs, besides fragments of miniature Teracotta sling-balls with careful relief ornamentation. The mound is an important site of the Rang Mahal culture. Some teracottas having specific influence of Gandhara art, have been found from Rang mahal, Badopal, Pir Sultana, Munda and Hanumangarh. These were modelled by hand and prepared after applying due heat in the oven. The characteristic features of all thesse reliefs are the classical treatment of drappery and the depiction of various hair -styles which illustrate an emcphatical influence of Gandhara Art. A few teracottas found from these places are of Lord Krishna uplifting Mount Goverdhana, Krishna with a milk maid, Shiva Parvati, Mahisa sur Maheshasura Mardini and others.
