ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA

Jodhpur Circle was hidicreated as the 26th Circle of Archaeological Survey of India on 21 August 2013 by bifurcating Jaipur Circle. The Circle has the territorial jurisdiction over the Districts of Ajmer, Banswara, Barmer, Bikaner, Chittaurgarh, Dungarpur, Hanumangarh, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Pali, Pratapnagar, Rajsamand, Sirohi, Sri Ganganagar, and Udaipur. There are 73 centrally protected monuments and sites under the control of the Circle. The monuments are diverse. Important among them Harappan sites of Kalibangan, Chak 86, Baror , protohistoric site at Gilund , early historical site of Rangmahal , the temples of Pushkar, Menal, Arthuna, Deo Somnath, Nagda, forts at Mandore, Kumbhalgarh, Chittaurgarh, Jaisalmer medieval period mosques, tombs, Kosminars of Ajmer and important medieval sites of Chetak Smadhi, Badhshahi bagh, Haldhighati , and the marble ghats at Rajsamand. The forts of Kumbhalgarh, Chittaurgarh and Jaisalmer are World Heritage Sites under the Hill Forts of Rajasthan.

The Circle was formally inaugurated by Smt. Chandresh Kumari Katoch, the then Hon’ble Minfister of Culture, Government of India on 27th January 2014.
